Meet Addison Peterson

I was raised in South Central Los Angeles by my mother, surrounded by my two sisters and the unwavering support of my extended family.

At just two years old, homelessness became our reality when my mother lost her job, and my parents parted ways. But in the face of adversity, our family came together, instilling in me the values of hard work, humility, and community support. This is where I learned the true meaning of resilience and determination.

Taught to read by my determined mother at the age of five, I devoured newspapers to understand the root causes of the challenges plaguing our community. Through this pursuit of knowledge, my passion for politics was ignited, a burning desire to be a voice for the voiceless.

My Story

Navigating the turbulent waters of the education system was no easy feat. In a school system that had all but given up on the children of our neighborhood, I stood out as a beacon of academic excellence. With grit and determination, I pursued my dream of studying political science, knowing that education was my ticket out of poverty and my pathway to effecting real change.

My college years at California State University, Los Angeles, were marked by a relentless commitment to higher education policy and social justice. Engaging in student government and grassroots campaigns, I fought tirelessly for the rights of marginalized communities, never losing sight of the struggles I had overcome. I joined thousands of California State University students to advocate for more funding for higher education.

I joined the Obama For America campaign to promote the Affordable Care Act and other issues important to Los Angeles. I helped run local State Senate campaigns in Los Angeles County and was recognized by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party as the 2011 Franklin Delano Roosevelt Democrat of the Year.

Upon graduation, I embarked on a new chapter, joining the prestigious Capitol Fellows program to immerse myself in the world of policymaking in our State Capitol in Sacramento. During this time, I found love, meeting my soulmate, Shanice while advocating for higher education policy in the California State Students Association, the state-wide student government for the California State University system.

Armed with a Master's in Public Administration and a passion for positive change, I delved into policy work, focusing on supporting small businesses and sustainable agriculture. My journey led me to my current role as the California Policy Manager at CCOF, where I continue to advocate for economic empowerment, increased natural nutrition, and environmental stewardship.

As I embark on my political campaign, I carry with me the stories of my community—stories of resilience, determination, and the unwavering belief that change is possible. With a platform rooted in social justice and community empowerment, I stand ready to be the people's voice and fight for a brighter future for every citizen of Antioch.
